So you want to date an Asian girl…

I’m one of those Asian girls that doesn’t date within my own ethnicity. So much so that I’ve been called an autoracist. Even though there is a slight element of truth, it’s an exaggeration nonetheless. I mean, I just can’t find myself attracted to Asian guys. Who can blame me for not finding androgyny attractive? Anyway, this entry isn’t about me, it’s about the dos and don’ts of dating an Asian girl. Actually, I think I’ll just focus on the don’ts.

1) Never take a Chinese girl to a Chinese restaurant on the first date. Other types of “Asian” places (i.e., Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc) are tolerable as long as it isn’t one of those crappy “Asian Fusion” (i.e., Spring Rolls) restaurants. Don’t even get my started on those!

2) Don’t try to impress a girl by ordering what you might consider “adventurous” foods. I find it extremely irritating.

I was having dinner at a Chinese restaurant earlier tonight with my parents. A white guy and his date (Chinese) came in. The guy kept saying “Oh I want to have squid! I love squid!!!!”. I think he must have said that 5 times. Meanwhile the woman was trying to order what she likes from the menu. Just so you know… Chinese people don’t usually eat squid as a main course. We don’t go to a restaurant and demand squid. Moron. So if a guy must take a Chinese woman to a Chinese restaurant… please shut the fuck up and let your date worry about what to order.

3) Do NOT, in any way whatsoever, reveal that you have an Asian fetish. We find that incredibly creepy. You can say you have a “preference” for Asian women (please indicate WHY, preferably something tasteful, you have such a preference). I mean, I have a preference for Caucasian men… so there.

4) Don’t try to compare us to any other Asian decent or try to sound sophisticated by telling me about the history of Japan while you know full well that I’m Chinese.

5) This one is related to the #4. Don’t ever confuse our ethnicity! Chinese is NOT the same as Korean.

The bottom line is, try to stay as ethnically neutral as possible.
